Project: I Am Korean American

leave a comment »

It was an idea that came to us late one night at the office: a simple website that collected profiles of Korean Americans and featured a new person on the homepage every day.

After putting together a quick design and customizing WordPress, we had our site. With the help of our intern Jenny Lee and our friend Anna Kim, we slowly spread word through various blogs and Facebook. At first, we begged our friends to post and thankfully some did. But after a while, things began to pick up as Korean Americans from across the country and beyond started submitting their profiles. We were pleasantly surprised by the diversity of perspectives and the insightfulness of the submissions. With 40 profiles posted (5 each week) and many more in our queue, we're excited to share these profiles and to explore what the identifier "Korean American" means to different individuals.

This is strictly a non-profit endeavor for us. We're having a good time with it and it's enabled us to meet very interesting and inspiring people. Stay tuned as we add more features and continue to showcase Korean Americans.
